چکیده

c s The task of the rendering process is to display the primitives used to represent the 3D volumetri cene onto a 2D screen. Rendering is composed of a viewing process which is the subject of this paper, b and the shading process. The projection process determines, for each screen pixel, which objects are seen y the sight ray cast from this pixel into the scene. The viewing algorithm is heavily dependent on the e e display primitives used to represent the volume and whether volume rendering or surface rendering ar mployed. Conventional viewing algorithms and graphics engines can be utilized to display geometric d primitives, typically employing surface rendering. However, when volume primitives are displayed irectly, a special volume viewing algorithm should be employed. This algorithm should capture the conp tents of the voxels on the surface as well as the inside of the volumetric object being visualized. This aper surveys and compares previous work in the field of direct volume viewing. We describe methods c for accelerating volume viewing, parallel volume viewing algorithms, and special purpose hardware. We onclude by surveying recent method for rendering intermixed volume-and-surface datasets and algorithms for volume viewing of various types of irregular grids.

Distributed and Collaborative Volume Visualization

We describe the design and implementation of volume rendering algorithms in a distributed and collaborative software environment. The algorithms use the computational power of a heterogeneous cluster of workstations on a network to produce translucent or shaded images of extremely large volume data sets. Graphics functions are performed using a machine independent 3D graphics and windows librar...

Advanced High-Quality Maximum Intensity Projection for Volume Visualization

Maximum Intensity Projection (MIP) is a volume rendering technique which is used to extract high-intensity structures from volumetric data. At each pixel the highest data value encountered along the corresponding viewing ray is determined. MIP is commonly used to extract vascular structures from medical MRI data sets (angiography). Due to lack of depth information in MIP images, animation of th...

High Quality Template-Based Volume Rendering

Volumetric representation of 3D scenes is becoming widely used in scientific visualization and computer graphics. Volume rendering confronts performance hurdles due to the voluminous nature of the data, and quality hurdles due to its discreteness. In this paper we present a three-phase template-based algorithm for expediting parallel viewing of volumetric datasets. Our approach exploits coheren...

3d Shape Reconstruction Using Volume Intersection Techniques 3d Shape Reconstruction Using Volume Intersection Techniques

This paper presents a technique for reconstructing objects from noisy boundary data that are scattered, unorganised and incomplete. Volume intersection algorithms are used to reconstruct incomplete objects from their silhouettes. An imagined light source is moved about the data and the cumulative amount ofìight' seen at each point in space is interpreted as indicating the likelihood that the po...
